Textile Talk - Ardecora Fabric Collection by Zimmer+Rohde

I WAS RECENTLY SEARCHING FABRIC FOR A CLIENT AND CAME UPON SOME BEAUTIFUL, DIMENSIONAL DAMASKS WITH SOFT, ETHEREAL TONES. THESE ARE FROM THE ARDECORA COLLECTION PRODUCED BY ZIMMER+ROHDE, A EUROPEAN TEXTILE HOUSE WITH OVER 100 YEARS IN THE INDUSTRY. THE ADORAZIONE PATTERN INCORPORATES SOPHISTICATED EMBROIDERY WITH THE CONTRASTING COLOR OF ITS CONTOURED THREAD AND RAISED RELIEF NEEDLEWORK WHICH SETS FLORAL MOTIFS APART FROM AN ELEGANT SHIMMERING BASE.

Color Trends @MaisonObjet Jan '13

Do you use Twitter? I was skeptical at first but find it useful in keeping on top of activities across the Interior Design community. Just the other day, I came upon this re-tweet from the US office of Maison et Objet (@MAISONOBJETusa), the premier international Home Fashion & Interior Design trade show held in Paris twice/year (I was there in September): After clicking, I entered the blog of Esha Gupta (@designpataki) an interior designer and blogger from Mumbai, India. The colors she highlighted in her original post pleasantly surprised me as they very similar to the winning furniture entry I designed for the Grange Colorful Exceptions Design contest last year!

Restaurant Interior Architecture - Next French Laundry or Original Saison?

I found a great story on Remodelista about a hot restaurant in San Francisco called Saison (Michelin 2 Star restaurant). Its genesis was in 2006 as a pop-up restaurant (open only one day/week with a $60 prix fixe menu) launched by Chef Joshua Skenes and sommelier Mark Bright in the Mission District. Saison has evolved into one of the premiere dining destinations on the west coast.

3D Print Me a House...

Have you heard about the Dutch architect firm (Universe Architecture) who is planning on building a house using a 3D Printer?

From Dezeen, the Landscape House will be printed in sections using a giant D-Shape printer, which can produce sections of up to 6 x 9 metres using a mixture of sand and a binding agent. The house has a looping form based on a Möbius strip

Take a Look at . . . Castillo di Sammezzano's Peacock Room

I stumbled upon this amazing Tuscan castle on the INSPIR3D websitesite. The main building of Castello di Sammezzano (20 minutes south east of Florence), was built  in the Hispano-Moresque style in 1605 with major renovations/additions occurring in the mid-late 1800's. It was later turned into a luxury hotel but fell into a state of disrepair and has been abandoned since 1999.

Let me tell you about . . . verre églomisé

There is a beautiful artform that has been used in interiors since ancient times and you can still find practiced today. Verre églomisé, is a technique/process in which the back side of glass is gilded with gold or metal leaf and then engraved with ornate designs.
