Happy New Year to you and your families! Here are a few Industry Trends and my own forecasts to help you kick off the new year in style.

The Pantone Color of 2014 is Radiant Orchid. Using this color as an accent is a more realistic approach, then say, blanketing your walls with it.....

Just went to a terrific presentation at the Baker Showroom in Philadelphia's Marketplace Design Center introducing the new Jacques Garcia Collection. One word - FABULOUS!

James Caughman, Senior Sales and Marketing Executive, gave a superb presentation that thoroughly explained Jacques Garcia's extensive knowledge of historical furniture, interiors and decorative objects. This knowledge, as Caughman illustrated through his visual presentation, directly influenced many of the new designs. Tinges of exotic cultures and high fashion also served as inspiration for Garcia's pieces. All of the pieces are hand crafted in the US using artisan techniques at the Baker factory in North Carolina.

I recently attended a wonderful small dinner meeting at 10 Arts Bistro & Lounge for a few of Philadelphia’s design professionals, brought together by Robin Gordon, Duralee Vice President of Marketing & Advertising.

I recently helped to complete a Model Home project (The Residences at the Ritz Carlton Philadelphia)  in which we used many pieces from the gorgeous Thomas Pheasant Collection for Baker. They are remarkably well made and well designed.

Wallcovering continues to be a design element with an increase in residential usage during 2013 (see my previous posting regarding Astek Wallcoverings – Marie Antoinette Shoes). I am seeing a demand for replacing painted walls with options such as hand painted fabric, papers that look like wood, and natural stone, or metal, along with some fabulous graphic prints on paper. A style that has stood the test of time and is at the pinnacle for quality is the hand painted wallpaper/walls by Zuber & Cie.

This is a bedroom I designed recently for a client who wanted to update her son’s bedroom. When we began the process, his room was still the toddler themed room he had since. . . well . . .he was  a toddler! To make it more age appropriate, I proposed a beachy, surf style motif, keeping it laid back and current, with earth tones and accents of sunset orange and vibrant greens. My client and her son loved the idea, so we began!

Architectural Digest Home Show 2013, Part 1

I spent the day meeting new vendors at the Architectural Digest Home Show 2013 in NYC (Pier 92) and met with some very cool and approachable exhibitor/vendors that I really look forward to working with in the future.

Astek Wallcoverings, the Etchings Collection

I love the Etchings collection by Astek Wallcoverings. Although produced via modern technological techniques, Etchings takes us back in time to early traditional printmaking via hand engraving/carving and ink application to the materials.
